Whale Watching

Each year from May to November around 20,000 humpback whales pass the iconic beaches of the Richmond Valley along the Humpback Highway, bound for the warmer waters of North Queensland.

There are some great onshore lookouts such as Razorback to admire these gentle giants from a distance.

Chinamans Beach is also a great place for a walk and to catch a glimpse of whales migrating through. Dirawong Reserve features 300 hectares of unbound beauty, including Goanna Headland, a great vantage point for whale watching. Broadwater National Park is situated between Broadwater and Evans Head, during your walk you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of whales passing through.

Whale watching cruises are available through Arrow’s Fishing Charters in Evans Head.
