Paddle the Richmond Valley

The rivers in the Richmond Valley set beautiful scenes for a day full of exploring. Discover the Richmond Valley by kayak, canoe or stand up paddleboard on one of the Richmond Valley’s paddle routes, there are many wonderful places waiting to be discovered. Make sure to pack plenty of food, water and sunscreen!

Scenic Walks

What better way to take in your surrounds than on foot enjoying the fresh air. Our scenic walks highlight historic buildings, landmarks, points of interest, hidden gems and take you through some spectacular views that are worth walking for. Interpretive signage is available on a number of our walks to provide a deeper insight to the history of the location and its origin.

Bird Watching

There are many different bird species you can see in the Richmond Valley, in fact nearly 330 species have been recorded across 23 locations in the Richmond Valley. Make sure you dress appropriately and always protect yourself against sunburn and insect bites. A pair of binoculars and a good field guide or bird App of Australian Birds will undoubtedly enhance your experience.

Whale Watching

Each year from May to November, around 20,000 humpback whales pass the beautiful beaches of the Richmond Valley, bound for the warmer waters of North Queensland. There are some great onshore lookouts and whale watching cruises to admire these gentle giants.

Northern Rivers Rail Trail

Embark on the ultimate journey on the Casino to Bentley section of the Northern Rivers Rail Trail. It spans 13.4km and has been carefully crafted to ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey for all trail-goers. It also includes a brand-new bridle pathway for all equestrian enthusiasts.
