Jabiru Geneebeinga Wetlands
The Jabiru Geneebeinga Wetlands are an important natural habitat providing a sanctuary for native birds and other wildlife. Situated alongside Queensland Road within Richmond Park, just minutes from Casino’s CBD, the wetlands offer opportunities for birdwatching, photography, recreation and environmental appreciation in a peaceful natural setting.
At the entrance, visitors will find a picnic area, observation points and maintained walkways that provide access to the wetlands while helping to minimise disturbance to wildlife. Seasonal changes in water levels and bird activity ensure every visit offers something different to discover.
The wetlands form part of the broader Richmond Park recreation area, where natural, recreational and heritage experiences sit in close proximity. Home to the Casino Mini Railway, which operates train rides on Sundays through the wetlands and on to the Old Casino Station Museum. Together, these attractions offer visitors the opportunity to experience both the natural and rail heritage of Richmond Park.

Originally developed as part of a Bicentennial project in 1988, Jabiru Geneebeinga Wetlands was created to support native wildlife habitat while providing opportunities for recreation and environmental appreciation.

The Jabiru Geneebeinga Wetlands are located along Queensland Road in North Casino, NSW (directly adjacent to the Casino Golf Club and Richmond Park). Entry to the wetlands, walking tracks, observation platforms, and picnic areas is completely free and open to the public daily.
Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to visit for peak wildlife activity and bird sightings. Over 130 native, local, and migratory bird species have been recorded here—including black swans, egrets, pelicans, spoonbills, and rare Jabiru storks.
Mostly no. The reserve features maintained walking paths, footbridges, and raised observation platforms that are easy to navigate for casual walkers, prams. However, terrain can be uneven and wet at times making manoeuvrability difficult for prams and wheelchairs.
To protect sensitive bird habitats, nesting zones, and native wildlife, dogs and other domestic pets are strictly prohibited within the core wetlands sanctuary. Visitors traveling with pets are encouraged to use nearby dog-friendly parks in Casino.
The entrance area near Queensland Road offers shaded picnic tables, seating areas, and public parking. Additional restrooms and family dining options are located adjacent at the Casino Golf Club.
